Join us for our wedding and a joyous weekend in the mountains

Our Story

Noah and Naomi met for the first time in the backyard of Noah’s childhood home. This was just a casual hang with a big group of friends, but their mutual friend Emily had suggested they might hit it off. It was August 2017, the summer before their senior year of high school.

Noah and Naomi butted heads in conversation, but quietly, they each started to think that Emily was right. Naomi wondered who this tall guy was with dark hair and a shy smile, winning their argument more by listening than by speaking. And Naomi was exactly Noah’s type: beautiful, intelligent, and full of fire.

A month later, Noah drove to Providence for their first official date––or rather, date plus meeting the whole family. Noah opened the door to a classic Shimberg scene: Betsy preparing a lunchtime feast and Ken hamming it up with Daniel. Naomi watched Noah with a grin, earnestly hoping he would fit right in. And he did—even bringing a never-before-seen dry wit to the Shimberg kitchen table. Later, Naomi and Noah wandered through Waterfire, talking about their futures and the stars and the meaning of life in the way that only over-eager highschoolers can. At the end of the night, Noah kissed Naomi.

What began as a high school romance became a long-distance college relationship. Freshman spring, they spent hours on FaceTime, talking through papers for Naomi’s infamously difficult Intro Ethics course. For his contributions, Noah was rewarded with the permanent role of Naomi’s editor, rubber-duck, and muse.

During the pandemic, they took turns living at each other’s homes. Karin and David gained a much-appreciated moderator and hand in the kitchen. Max and Gavin were thrilled to finally have a sister: Naomi made them pretzels with melted Rolo’s and cackled along as they buried her under couch pillows. At the Shimberg house, Naomi had to drag Noah away from his hours-long chess games with Daniel.

After college, Noah left the east coast for Monterey, California for a job. He knew he would come back soon for Naomi. One morning in Monterey, Naomi turned to Noah: “Any time you ask, I’ll say yes.”

On May 11, 2024, Noah invited Naomi to join him for a picnic at Breakneck Hill, a grassy field down the road from where they first met. Noah asked, and Naomi said yes.

The Preserve at Chocorua

The Preserve is a 26 acre property in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. It was founded in 1778 as a working farm. As soon as we saw the sailcloth tent, two-story barn, fire pits, tall trees, and sprawling open fields, we knew we wanted to spend our big weekend here. The Preserve is minutes from beautiful Lake Chocorua and 20 miles from North Conway, the central hub of the White Mountains.

Lodging

For friends of the Shimbergs and Weinbergs, we recommend the following lodging options. We have visited each of them and personally toured the rooms. Room blocks will become available for booking at Purity Springs Resort and the Fairfield Inn after we send out invitations in the spring. If you think you will stay at an Airbnb/VRBO, we recommend booking as soon as practical as July is the high season.

Purity Springs Resort

Details

Scenic property located on Purity Lake. Family-oriented, lake activities, and traditional rooms. 18 minutes from The Preserve. Recommended if you embrace "camp style" and are okay with no frills lodging in exchange for a location close to The Preserve.

Fairfield Inn

Details

All the amenities of a nicer but somewhat anonymous hotel. Located at the bottom of the Mount Cranmore ski area. 30 minutes from The Preserve, likely longer with traffic in the high season.

North Conway Grand

Details

A more upscale hotel with a spa, restaurants, and well-appointed rooms. Located close to many shops and outlets. 25 minutes from The Preserve, perhaps longer with traffic.

Days Inn

Details

Basic, inexpensive, what you need and nothing more. This Days Inn was recently renovated. Only 9 minutes from The Preserve.

Airbnbs/VRBOs

Details

There are a wide range of options in the area though some may be 30 minutes or more away from The Preserve. July is the high season so best to book soon. Here is a wishlist of potential options.

Transportation

If you are flying, we recommend either flying to Boston (2.5 hours to The Preserve) or Portland (1.5 hours to The Preserve). Transportation to The Preserve from offsite will not be provided, so we recommend a rental car if you are flying in. That said, we have many friends in the area and would be happy to arrange carpools.

There is plenty of space to park at The Preserve. If you are coming from offsite on Saturday, you will need about 15 minutes to walk from the parking area to the Chuppah. Let us know if you need golf cart assistance while onsite.
